Morgan’s Wonderland ~ San Antonio, TX

April 15, 2013 by Rebecca Darling

Spread the love

Morgan’s Wonderland in San Antonio, Texas, is the World’s First Ultra Accessible Family Fun Park.  Opened in 2010, it’s mission is “to provide a safe, clean and beautiful environment free of economic barriers that all individuals, regardless of age, special need or disability, can come to and enjoy.” Morgan’s Wonderland is this and more.  My children and I enjoyed a wonderful, fun-filled day here last December, where we played non-stop for hours, discovering new ways to play around every corner.

Developed and built by the Gordon Hartman Family Foundation, the inspiration for the park comes from a sweet girl named Morgan.  The park has become a special place for those with special needs or disabilities in South Texas.  Everything in the park, EVERYTHING, is made accessible for everyone. From rides to swings to fishing on the wharf, every child can enjoy the experience.

Morgan’s Wonderland has the best playgrounds I have ever seen with unique playscapes, boats, teeter-totters, swings, and the biggest sand box(sans the beach) I have ever seen.   Every child I saw had huge smiles on their faces playing on them. And it was one spot, despite the cold temperatures, my kids couldn’t get enough of.

The Paramount Theatre has hands on exhibits – become a weatherman, go on a test drive, ride a horse, and dance around in the shadow room – everything is top notch and in working order.

And what’s an amusement park without rides!  Jeep Adventures, a shiny carousel and a great train, all outfitted for wheelchairs, are ready for you,

The Waterworks area looked so cool – too bad it was winter.  I am sure this is a great spot in the summer too cool off. All the outdoor play areas are shaded as well.

The Wharf has fishing, aqua blasters (water guns) and remote controlled boats.

Another really great feature of the park is the GPS Adventure Band.  The band will automatically file the pictures taken on the rides for you as well as helping locate members of your party across the park.

Morgan’s Wonderland has one of the cleanest environment I have seen.  All the employees & volunteers were engaging and had big smiles on their faces – you could tell they really enjoyed their jobs.

And we really enjoyed our time there, as you can see in this quick clip – “10 Silly Experiences at Morgan’s Wonderland”:
