Heading to Rodeo Austin this year? Here are 7 Tips for Rodeo Austin to make it a great day!
Rodeo Austin is here for the next week or so – March 14-28, 2015. We just spent a full day, and found 14 Fun Things to do at Rodeo Austin – but it wouldn’t be like me to not give you a few tips to make the day at the Rodeo that much better, right? So, before you head out, here’s what’s to know.
7 Tips for Rodeo Austin
1. Best ticket deals: To enter the fairgrounds, there is an admission price. Or you can buy Rodeo & Concert tickets to get in. You can purchase tickets online for a small discount, but there are fees, so you end up paying the same, depending on how many tickets you are buying.
There are TONS of rides at the Carnival, all requiring differing amounts of tokens (tokens are $1 a piece and most rides are 5 or more tokens). Your kids want to ride all the rides and the BEST way to go is with an unlimited wristband. There is a Spring Break discount March 16 – 20 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., which offers unlimited daily rides for $20. Spring Break Discount Wristbands only available for purchase at the gate.
2. Go Early and on a Weekday! Get there right at 11, when the gates open and you will experience virtually no line for rides. And there will be plenty of room at the shows to find a seat. Most are going for the rodeo events in the evening, so you will really be able to take advantage of that unlimited wristband by going early.
3. Look at the Schedule of Events and Make a Plan! While there were not many Rodeo events to watch during the day, there is TONS of fun activities for the kids, including the Swifty Swine Pig races, the K9 Kings Dog Show, Petting Zoo, Pony Rides, and KidTown. You do not want to miss these fun and free events!
4. Bring lots of Cash – All of the food vendors take tokens that you can purchase with cash, so you will want plenty, as the food is pricy. There are ATM machines available if you need more (with a courtesy fee). Some of the food vendors accept credit cards. Keep in mind, you have to pay for packing with cash too.
5. Bring a Stroller for little ones – There is a lot of walking and standing, so bring a stroller. I was very impress at how many benches I saw scattered throughout the carnival. Also, there was quite a few picnic tables to sit at as well.
6. Bring Water & Snacks – If you are planning to be there all day and don’t want to pay $4 for a bottle of water, carry a backpack and put some waters and snacks.
7. Buy the refillable drink cup – If you plan to be there all day, buy the large plastic “souvenir” cup to begin with for 6 Tokens ($6). Refills are only 3 tokens ($3). It’s a great deal. All the vendors accept them for refills throughout the fairgrounds.
