Who doesn’t love a good Christmas movie….One that puts you in the Holiday Spirit? Our family does so when Disney+ offers us the opportunity to review the upcoming Holiday feature, Godmothered, we jumped at the chance.
And since my dear daughter and fellow Disney fan is home for the holidays from college, I gave her the opportunity to review the movie for R We There Yet Mom?! And she did an excellent job……
This past weekend, I had the opportunity to watch the Disney+ Christmas movie of the year, “Godmothered”, before it was released. Let me just say, it is one of the cutest movies I have seen in a long time. Perfect to add to you Christmas Movie Playlist!
This Christmas comedy follows Elenor, a fairy godmother-in-training (Jillian Bell), as her profession is dying. As a last-ditch effort, she travels to Boston to help 10-year-old Mackenzie with her “true love”. Little does she know that girl is now a 40-year-old single mother (Isla Fisher) stressed with her job at a news station. Despite these new complications, Elenor’s determined to find Mackenzie her “Happily Ever After”, one way or another.
“Godmothered” is the warm Christmas movie we needed after this rough year. I’m not normally into the cutesy holiday movies, but this one was different. All the goofy one-liners and silly scenes made me feel like I was doing an ab workout. But to balance it out were all the sweet and family-centered moments.
Here are a few reasons why “Godmothered” is THE family Christmas movie of 2020.
It proves true love isn’t just with your significant other
Very similar to Disney’s 2013 film “Frozen”, we get to see how true love is actually found through the people you surround yourself with. When I think of Christmas, family is the first thing that comes to mind. This movie is all about how important family is and the relationships within it. I don’t want to give too much away, but by the end of the film we discover that love comes in all shapes and sizes.
The portrayal of growth in the relationships between the Walsh family members is beautiful.
The relationship between Mackenzie and her daughter Jane reminds me of my relationship with my mom. She contantly pushes me to be the best that I can and encouages me no matter what. We may have disagreements here and there but even in the rough patches we continue to love each other.
“Godmothered” isn’t only a comedy; it shows the strength of a mother-daughter relationship.
The comedic timing of each line is PERFECT!
Jillian Bell portrayed the young, naive fairy godmother so well. There are countless moments you’ll have tear in your eyes from the goofy things Elenor says and does throughout the film. The silliness is perfect for everyone in the family!
Now that I’ve helped you find the perfect family Christmas movie, what are you doing still reading? Go login to Disney+ on December 4th and watch it with your family! But don’t forget to come back and let me know in the comments below what you thought of it!
