Our family loves to watch movies – and I was excited to see how many great movies will be out in 2015. Take a look at these movies my family can’t wait to see.
Strange Magic
Touchstone Pictures presents this animated film by Lucasfilm Ltd. Strange Magic is going to be a fun fairy tale musical inspired by “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” “Popular songs from the past six decades help tell the tale of a colorful cast of goblins, elves, fairies and imps, and their hilarious misadventures sparked by the battle over a powerful potion.” Based on the recent musical successes at the box office, we can’t wait to see this one. January 23, 2015 Rated TBD
McFarland, USA
McFarland, USA is based on a true story from 1987 – novice runners from McFarland, CA, an economically-challenged town, work together to build a championship cross country team. Disney brings us this touching sports movie, starring Kevin Costner as Coach Jim White. February 20, 2015 Rated PG
Cinderella
The classic animated movie comes to life with Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett (“Blue Jasmine,” “Elizabeth”), Lily James (“Downton Abbey”), Richard Madden (“Game of Thrones”) and Academy Award nominee Helena Bonham Carter (“The King’s Speech,” “Alice in Wonderland”). After the incredible job that Walt Disney Studios did on Malecifant, our family can not wait to see this movie. March 13, 2015 Rated PG
Monkey Kingdom
The Disneynature movies are always fascinating to my family. They do such an excellent job of entertaining us while educating. Monkey Kingdom showcases the adventures of new mom Maya, a clever and resourceful blonde-bobbed monkey who’s determined to give her son a leg up in the world. Monkey Kingdom opens on Earth Day and for every ticket sold opening week (April 17-23, 2015), Disneynature will make a donation to Conservation International to help protect monkeys and other endangered species in their natural habitats. April 17, 2015 Rated TBD
Avengers: Age of Ultron
My family loves the Avengers stories and they are looking forward to this new Marvel Studios movie coming out in late spring. Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye are back to stop the villain Ultron. James Spader, ultimate bad-guy plays Ultron and joins our favorites, Robert Downey Jr, who returns as Iron Man, along with Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye. May 1, 2015 Rated TBD
Tomorrowland
Intrigued by the trailers for this next Disney picture, we can’t wait to see this story. Disillusioned former boy-genius Frank (George Clooney) and Casey (Britt Robertson), a bright, optimistic teen embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space known only as “Tomorrowland.” May 22, 2015 Rated TBD
Inside Out
Disney Pixar’s newest motion picture, Inside Out, takes us inside the mind of a little girl, uprooted from her Midwest life and moved to San Francisco for her father’s new job. Her emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith) – help guide her through this transition. We can’t wait for the newest Pixar movie! June 19, 2015
Ant-Man
Marvel Studios brings one of the founding members of The Avengers back in their own story. Paul Rudd stars as Scott Lang aka Ant-Man who can shrink in scale but increase in strength. He partners with his mentor Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) to “protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats.” My kids are going to love it. July 17, 2015 Rated TBD
The Jungle Book
Jungle Book is another Disney Pictures live-action movie inspired by Disney’s animated classic film and Rudyard Kipling’s stories. Mowgli is raised by a pack of wolves and overcomes challenges when he is forced out into the jungle on his own. This all star cast features the voices of Ben Kingsley, Bill Murray, Scarlett Johannsson, and Christopher Walken. October 9, 2015 Rated TBD
Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Of course, growing up in the age of Star Wars, I am a fan – and so lucky to have a house-full of fans too. We can’t wait for the next episode and are eager to see more information come out about this December movie. Til then, this trailer will have to suffice……

Your kids may be a tad young, there is some ‘adult language’ but Chef was a fabulous movie. We found the overall message outweighed the language so we let our kids watch & they loved it

I was wondering about these movies (I had thought that McFarland USA may have had something to do with Seth McFarlane and then realized spelling was different). Now to make sure we have date nights to see some of these!

It’s been so long since I’ve seen a movie other than frozen or dancing dog, haha… What a great list! Thanks for sharing these. Maybe some day I’ll join adults of the world and see some of these!

I am so excited that there are so many fun-sounding family movies coming out this year. Strange Magic sounds awesome, although I think my monkey-obsessed toddler may enjoy the monkey film. I can just imagine how many times he’ll say “Curious George!” throughout the movie. Thanks for these great ideas!
