As a mom of a girl, I love when I find special opportunities that are geared toward girls. Girls Empowerment Network’s campGEN is a summer day camp for empowering girls here in Austin, Texas. Here’s what summer camp events they have coming up.
CampGEN
The Girls Empowerment Network (GEN) was created by a group of moms who were concerned raising adolescent girls in Austin, Texas. These mothers met after reading Reviving Ophelia, a book by Dr. Mary Pipher, to address an increasing trend among middle school aged girls – a systematic decline and sometimes permanent loss of self-esteem, the outcome of which can be devastating: epidemic levels of anorexia/bulimia, self-mutilation, depression, low academic achievement, teen pregnancy, and drug abuse.
The Girls Empowerment Network offers several cool programs for girls in Austin, including an after school club for girls in grades 3-8 (clubGEN), a statewide, multi-city conference, (We Are Girls Conference), and workshops that address the topics that are important to growing girls (GirlTalk). In addition to these great programs, GEN offers several different summer camps for girls in grades 4-8.
Girls Empowerment Network’s summer day camp, campGEN, serves girls in grades 4-8. campGEN girls participate in fun, interactive workshops during weeklong sessions that are designed to help girls feel more confident as they navigate girlhood. Girls will gain new skills, new friendships and a new sense of self.
