Every little boy & girl LOVES to ride a train. And we are so lucky to have so many to choose from here in Central Texas. One of our favorites runs in the Southwest Williamson County Regional Park, just north of Round Rock off of Hwy. 1431 and Sam Bass Road.
The Cedar Rock Railroad depot is tucked away in the woods on the backside of the park (just follow the signs). Tickets are $2.50 a person for the beautiful & scenic 1.3 mile ride.
“Sophie” is a quarter-scale, fully electric locomotive that can go up to 8.5 miles per hour. She was brought to Central Texas by Texas Bells & Whistles, who operates her every weekend. The story of how she made it the park is a labor of love – the track was built by hand by her owners!!
The ride is a pretty one that winds past tennis courts, soccer fields, a pond, and trails that occupy the park. It also pops in and out of shady groves and even chugs through a tunnel!!

I spent a whole week at that depot which acted as the Tot Spot for Cub Scout camp and I was a counselor. On the last day, we finally got to ride the train. So much fun!
