The Domain 8th Annual Lighting of the Great Tree: November 22, 2014

 Domain Tree

It’s the event that kicks off the shopping bug in all of us!! The Domain hosts the 8th Annual Lighting of The Great Tree on Saturday, November 22, 2014.  This fun tradition starts at 6:00 pm with the lighting of a 40-foot tree, featuring more than 6,000 twinkling lights and 400 ornaments in a variety of colors. The tree-lighting show will feature a performance by ACM singer and songwriter, Sunny Sweeney, and Outside Voices, a local children’s choir. The show will end with the lighting of the tree and a fireworks show.

The Domain will invite an honorary tree lighter to participate in lighting the tree with Santa Claus.  In partnership with Any Baby Can and their Candlelighters Program, which supports families with children battling cancer, The Domain will introduce the audience to Any Baby Can through Kaylee Gonzalez’s story. Kaylee will then join Santa Claus on stage to light the tree and share in the magical moment.

Sunny Sweeney will perform favorite holiday hits in addition to a few of her most popular songs before lighting the tree. Her debut album, Heartbreaker’s Hall of Fame, produced a trio of regional hits – “If I Could”, “Ten Years Pass” and “East Texas Pines” – and allowed her to begin touring.   The holiday celebration will also feature a performance by Outside Voices, a vocal performance group founded in 2009. Outside Voices is open to all Austin and surrounding area youth with performers ranging in age from K-12th grades.

Free holiday entertainment will kick-off at noon at The Domain with family-friendly activities including children’s holiday music, face painting, caricature drawings, balloon twisting and holiday crafts near the new lawn area in the Domain II. Many stores will also be offering special in-store events and offers throughout the day.

The Domain will also have fun Holiday events throughout the season, including Visits with Santa Claus and Breakfast with Santa.  Follow The Domain on Facebook for Holiday Event Updates.

My husband bought me a brand-new tree this year, and I can’t wait to put it up in our living room!

I would love to go to this event. We have missed it every year and we’ll actually be home this time.

We plan on buying our Christmas tree the weekend of December 13th! However, since we just moved to Austin and have a larger house, I am hoping to put up a small fake tree the weekend after Thanksgiving, too! 🙂
