Friday Daydreamin’: Thankful for Texas #’s 17-23

November 22, 2012 by Rebecca Darling

Spread the love
Happy Friday friends! Time for Friday Daydreamin’! My favorite day of the week as I get to armchair vacation through all of your lovely photos!!
This month, I will be sharing all the places in Texas that I am Thankful for.  Take a few moments to learn a little more about this great state that I call home….and love so dearly.
Texas has a handful of German towns that know how to have fun!  Nothing better than sitting under big oak trees, listening to great bands, and sipping your favorite beverage.  Just this past August, we spent a Saturday night in Walburg with the family – it was one of the most relaxing evenings!
Everyone in Texas knows that Spring is officially here when they see the hills come alive with blue from our gorgeous, Texas-loved Bluebonnet.  It’s a rite of passage to stick your kiddos in a patch of blue and snap pictures!

Austin is known for it’s quirkiness and one of the places that displays that the most is the Cathedral of Junk. Three stories of art made from everyday junk – it’s fascinating!

With kiddos who adore trains, we are so blessed to have many vintage trains to ride on in Texas.  One of our favorites is the Grapevine Vintage Train in Grapevine, Texas.

Texas has some amazing underground caverns to explore. Seven gorgeous caverns – all distinctly different.  The Natural Bridge Caverns is an amazing cavern filled with stalactites, stalagmites, bats (yup), and more!

The Zilker Park Trail of Lights is BACK!!! Austinites are thrilled the beloved tradition will be illuminated once again this year.  Millions of twinkly lights, lots of ohhs and ahhs, and excitement in the air that is 100% christmas! I. can’t. wait.

We have been lucky enough to visit most of the Children’s Museums in Texas and all are wonderful. But the one room that sticks out in my kids’ minds the most is the bubble room at Mayborn Museum Complex in Waco, Texas.

Check out the first three weeks of our Thankful for Texas installment:

Days 10-16

So many wonderful things to be thankful for in Texas! Those bluebonnets are gorgeous and I would love to see the Cathedral of Junk!!

I love the thought of recycling, so the Cathedral wins my vote. I did not know there were German towns in Texas – that is great – you can visit Germany without even leaving the country.

Yay! The Trail of Lights is back. I remember marveling at how big the Yule Log was. We also like the bubble room at the Mayborn.

That Cathedral of Junk is definitely my favorite of this installment of Thankful for Texas. It’s so totally over the top.

The Trail of Lights looks amazing. I just love it when towns go all out with a light display at Christmas.

Hey lady! This Christmas I am thankful for you 🙂 Thankful that you decided to share your love of Texas with all of us around the country so we know what makes that state great. One of these days I’ll get down there to say hi. Promise!

The Bluebonnets are so beautiful and so ‘Texas” and loved that train.
