One things that can really put you into the Holiday Spirit is seeing a great holiday show, especially one that can make you laugh or get sentimental, or just plain “disappear” in the moment of the great performance. ZACH Theatre in Austin, Texas has 3 great holiday shows this year that are perfect combination of all 3 of these.
A Christmas Carol
This holiday classic story is brought to life with modern songs that fit so perfectly well you could never imagine the story without them. My son & I had a sneak peek last week and we both were blown away. This show is a WINNER for the entire family to see. Dave Steakley’s brand-new musical adaptation of A Christmas Carol, plays from November 25 through December 27, 2015 on stage at the Topfer Theatre. We saw it last week and it was wonderful – here’s our review.
Spectacular holiday carols and surprising anachronistic tuneful classics whisk your family on a captivating ride with the three soulful, rockin’ ghosts in Scrooge’s transformative dream. A Christmas Carol features a traditional Victorian setting and gorgeous period costumes, but with a musical score that spans genres and eras, from rousing gospel to rock-n-soul favorites, and from nostalgic harmony classics to contemporary hits.
The Santaland Diaries
Back by popular demand, The Santaland Diaries, plays November 25-December 27, 2015 on the Whisenhunt stage, starring Martin Burke of ZACH’s It’s a Wonderful Life and Harvey. Though I haven’t seen one of Martin Burke’s shows, I have heard they are fantastic!
He’s baaaack! Don’t miss the hilarious Martin Burke as the ever-irreverent elf Crumpet. David Sedaris’ outlandish and true tale comes to life on the Whisenhunt stage as Crumpet shows what it takes to juggle tiny tots and staggering Santas during a painfully festive time of the year. And to kick off the evening, chanteuse Meredith McCall and Martin take you on a sensational sleigh-ride of an all-new cabaret show created especially for ZACH. This merrily subversive and laugh ‘til you cry evening will delight any adult audience.
Holiday Heroes
Perfect for the young ones, Holiday Heroes is a fun sing-a-long show! ZACH’s Family Series presents Holiday Heroes, guaranteed to delight families and children ages three and up. Tickets for Holiday Heroes are $20 and they will have 2 shows: Saturday, December 12 & 19, 2015.
Now in its 16th year due to popular demand! In this hilariously fun holiday sing-along, students get into the holiday spirit with Ernie and Rufus. Celebrate the season with singing, laughter and holiday cheer for all.
