Did You Know I Voiced a Character in Disney’s Zootopia?

June 10, 2016 by Rebecca Darling

Spread the love

While in Los Angeles for the Alice Through the Looking Glass premiere event, I had the opportunity to visit Disney Toon Studios for the Zootopia Blu-Ray release event.  We met with many of the important people who made this BILLION DOLLAR movie a success.   And did you know, I voiced a character in Zootopia?

Ok, not really in Zootopia…the one that is out on Blu-Ray (available in stores now!) But while we were there for the event, we met with Walt Disney Studios dialogue mixer Paul McGrath. In his career, Paul has worked on many Disney Animation Studios films including Zootopia, Planes: Fire & Rescue, Phineas & Ferb.  And he is now working on the upcoming Moana.

The coolest part of walking into the dialogue studio was being in the exact sound booth that the voices of many of the characters of Zootopia had been recorded.  Paul showed us how he mixes the sound & voices over the film, and though he made it look easy, you could tell that he was most definitely a professional.

And when he invited us into the Sound Booth to do a little voice-over work, we were thrilled!

Walking into the booth, the first thing you notice is the complete silence. You know the saying, ‘the silence was deafening’?  It’s like someone sucked all of the noise out of the room and all you can hear is the blood pumping in your head.  It’s really strange and was very unnerving to me. As a busy mom of 3, the silence was most definitely deafening.

But once you put on the headphones and the sound returns, you remember you have a job to do! Voicing the adorable elephant shrew that saves Nick & Judy from the icy depths underneath Mr. Big’s desk.  Remember this scene??  Listen closely…….that’s voice is ME!!!

Another fun experience had at Disney Toon Studios that day. We learned how to draw Clawhauser with one of the Directors of the movie, heard secrets about animating the film, and even interviewed breakout star of the film, Flash Slothmore.  What an incredible experience!

Zootopia is out on Blu-Ray & Digital HD TODAY- June 7, 2016
