Lake Pflugerville may be off the beaten path, but it is a great place to escape to for a suburban beach adventure. The lake features a small pebble beach and swimming area, complete with nice little waves on a windy day. The water is a lovely temperature and kids can swim in a roped-off area.
Younger children enjoy digging in the pebble “sand.” But those little rocks get mighty toasty on bare feet, so bring water shoes if you have them!
There are no life guards on the beach and the water does get deep towards the back of the roped off swimming area. My 8-year-old cannot stand in the deep section, but my 10-year-old can. I make my little boys wear life jackets, for my peace of mind.
When kids tire of swimming, there is a fun climbing ball nearby. And, the most recent addition to Lake Pflugerville Park is a KOMPAN playground. I think KOMPAN makes the coolest playground equipment around. This play area may not look like much, but my 2 and 5-year-olds had a great time exploring all of the climbing, swinging and spinning components.
This little seat spins around, and around, and around. |
Lake Pflugerville Park has bathrooms, showers, and two picnic pavilions located near the beach and play areas. For additional entertainment, PflugFun rents kayaks on the lake. Surrounding the lake is a 3.1 mile trail, with fishing piers along the way.
