I love having the opportunity to see some great Broadway musicals here in Austin. Especially those that I wouldn’t have picked to see if I traveled to New York City. And ONCE, starting it’s run next week at the Bass Concert Hall, is one of those musicals that grabbed me at the description.
ONCE tells the story of a musician who is about to give up his dream until a beautiful young woman takes interest in his songs. And as the relationship grows, the music grows. All the music is played out on the stage – with the musicians & band a part of the story. ONCE was also made into a movie starring Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová.
ONCE is the winner of eight Tony Awards including Best Musical and winner of the 2013 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album.
I’m excited it is coming to Austin was after watching the videos online of the tour, the story looks like it grabs you right away.
From the Press Release……
ONCE is the celebrated new musical based on the Academy Award-winning film. It tells the story of an Irish musician and a Czech immigrant drawn together by their shared love of music. Over the course of one fateful week, their unexpected friendship and collaboration evolves into a powerful but complicated romance, heightened by the raw emotion of the songs they create together. Brought to the stage by an award-winning team of visionary artists and featuring an ensemble cast of gifted actor/musicians, ONCE is a musical celebration of life and love: thrilling in its originality, daring in its honesty… and unforgettable in every way.
