I have sad news for you all. This is the last year for the beloved Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights at Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios. Some of you may have no clue what I am talking about, but most of you are sad like we were to hear the news. And that’s why I was thrilled to have the opportunity to get to see them one last time earlier this month. And man, were they fantastic.
Celebrating it’s 20th year, the Osborne Lights were originally created by a family in Arkansas. The Osborne family were one of the first to create a display of musically-timed holiday lights at their home. Outgrowing his yard, a partnership was made with Disney Parks, and in 1995, the lights were moved to Hollywood Studios, where each year, thousands of guests have had the opportunity to see.
This year, the display took my breath away. It has grown in size, occupying a few blocks and covering almost every inch of building in the City Streets area. With flying angels, a rooftop carousel, and a giant Christmas tree guarded by tin soldiers, the display is simply outstanding.
We spent about an hour walking the streets, listening to all the songs and found a ton of fun “nuggets” planted throughout the display that you are not going to want to miss should you have the chance to see then in the next month.
7 Reasons You Must See the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights:
To See the Show
First and foremost, you must see this show. Hands down, it is the best Holiday Lights show I have ever seen. There are so many blinking lights surrounding you, props that move, and great music, it is hard not to want to dance. We were there for a full hour and never did find a repeating song.
To Dance in the Snow
We saw the Osborne Lights for the first time 6 years ago. And back then, my kids were delighted when it started to snow on them. I can still hear my daughter’s delight that it was “SNOWING MOMMY!” This year when it started to snow, I didn’t get as much excitement from my 13-year old son, but all the children around us were thrilled. I mean come on, you hardly expected to come to Orlando and see snow!
To Find the Hidden Mickeys
Thoughtout the display, Mickeys of all sizes are hidden, some more obvious than others. My son and I had fun pointing out as many as we could. I hear there are over 40 of them in the display.
To Find the Hidden Disney Carrots
We were also very excited to see some “hidden” Disney fun throughout the display as well. We found various Disney characters such as the Incredibles, Nemo, Olaf, and more within the lights. And my favorite was tucked away on a corner. Anyone recognize this:
To Get a Christmas Bulb Necklace
Don’t miss your opportunity to grab your very own blinking Christmas lights necklace while you are here!
To Take a Nostalgic Picture
Disney Photographers are set up in all the perfect spots to grab a professional photo of the experience for you – the classic is under the tree.
Or you can always snap a selfie like we did:
To See the Show for the Very Last Time
As I mentioned earlier, sadly, this is the last time to see this show at Walt Disney World. The City Streets area is coming down this Spring to make room for the new Star Wars & Toy Story areas that Hollywood Studios is putting up. So, if you can see it, do. It’s so well done.
You will never sing Feliz Navidad again without thinking for these blinking lights!
