What a way to kick off the summer with free family fun in Zilker Park with Oscar Music from the Austin Civic Orchestra on Friday, June 10 or Saturday, June 11, 2016.
There’s nothing Austin families love more than music played outdoors in one of Austin’s most scenic venues. That’s why the Austin Civic Orchestra (ACO) continues to present its ever-popular, summer-concert series at the Sheffield Hillside Theater in Zilker Park. And since they know that budget is something that is front of mind for most families, this concert is totally free to attend, so bring the whole crew.
This year’s theme is Oscar Winners with the orchestra set perform music that has won the Academy Award. Listen as the wondrous sounds from family-friendly films such as Frozen, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Mary Poppins, The Wizard of Oz and many more, fill the park. If you’ve ever wanted to see you child’s face light up, take them to see music from their favorite film played live. It’s a wonderful summer memory waiting to be made.
They will also have a food truck and ice cream truck close by, so come hungry. If you want to pack a picnic, that’s a great option too.
If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, you can buy a raffle ticket for the prize of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to conduct ACI for the concert finale, a rousing rendition of “Stars and Stripes Forever.” Conducting an orchestra is a thrill for child and adult alike and something you’ll be telling your friends about for years to come.
No family would be complete without their four-legged friends, so make sure you bring your pupper to this dog-friendly event.
This concert plays two nights back-to-back, on Friday or Saturday, June 10th or 11th at 8 PM for this annual FREE, summer classic.
