Come on, admit it. You know every word of Under the Sea.
When Disney’s The Little Mermaid came out in the theaters, I was 13. And like every tween girl at the time, we bought the cassette tape and learned all the words to every song.
Fast forward a few years and my daughter learned to love The Little Mermaid just as much as her momma did. It’s a classic movie that transcended the ages. I mean, everyone has who’s-its & what’s-its galore.
So when I heard that Lexus Broadway in Austin at Texas Performing Arts was bringing Theatre Under the Stars tour of Disney’s The Little Mermaid to Bass Concert Hall in Austin, I knew I had to take my daughter – ever if she is now 14.
From the Press Release……
In a magical kingdom fathoms below, we meet Ariel, the little mermaid who is tired of flipping her fins and longs to be part of the fascinating world on dry land. Joining her are Sebastian, Ariel’s crabby sidekick; Ursula, the evil sea witch; Triton, King of the Sea and the handsome and human Prince Eric. Based on the Disney animated film and hit Broadway musical, The Little Mermaid is making its Austin debut. The show features all of the favorite songs like “Under The Sea” and “Part of Your World” as well as new songs written by Oscar-winning Disney composer Alan Menken, the mastermind behind productions such as Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and Pocahontas. Lyrics are by Howard Ashman and Glen Staler and book by Doug Wright.
Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS), Houston’s acclaimed non-profit musical theatre company, will kick off Disney’s The Little Mermaid in Houston this September and will then co-present the production in four additional cities. After closing on Broadway in 2009, The Little Mermaid underwent two years of intensive work to fine-tune and master the production. In 2014, TUTS produced the revised version which included mesmerizing scenery, dazzling new costumes and high-flying action.
